The Chiba Kōgyō Daigaku ( Japanese 千葉 工業 大学 , German Technical University Chiba , English Chiba Institute of Technology , short: Chibakōdai ( 千葉 工 大 ), Kōdai ( 工 大 ), CIT or Chibatech ) is a private technical university in Japan . The main campus is located in the Tsudanuma district of Narashino in Chiba Prefecture . This university is the oldest of the existing private technical colleges in Japan.
history
It was founded on May 15, 1942 under the name Kōa Technical University ( 興 亜 工業 大學 , Kōa Kōgyō Daigaku ; the name Kōa means something like "Development of Asia") in Machida . The main founder was Kuniyoshi Obara ( 小 原 國 芳 , 1887–1977), who founded the Tamagawa School ( 玉川 学園 , Tamagawa gakuen ) as early as 1929 in order to provide a holistic education for children. The technical college was first part of the Tamagawa School; In 1944 she moved from Tamagawa. In 1946 she moved to Chiba Prefecture and renamed herself Chiba Kōgyō Daigaku ; it then became legally independent from the Tamagawa School.
Since 1950 the university has been located on the Tsudanuma campus, the former military base of the Japanese railway troops . Its main gate (built around 1910) survives to this day as the back gate of the campus.
