Chiharu Shiota

Chiharu Shiota ( Japanese 塩 田 千 春 , Shiota Chiharu ; born May 20, 1972 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese installation and performance artist. She has lived in Berlin since 1996 .

Life

Shiota studied from 1992 to 1996 at the Seika University in Kyoto . In 1996 she moved to the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg and then studied from 1997 to 1999 at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig . In 1999 she moved to the Berlin University of the Arts and finished her studies there in 2003. She was a student of Marina Abramović and Rebecca Horn .

From 2010 to 2013 she was visiting professor at Seika University in Kyoto and in 2011 at California College of the Arts .

plant

Shiota often uses found objects for her installations, such as shoes, windows or suitcases. Spun threads of black and gray wool, which the artist weaves in exhibition rooms, have become a trademark. These cover clothes, but also musical instruments, chairs or doors.
