Chloramben or 3-amino-2,5-dichloro-benzoic acid is a derivative of benzoic acid and a synthetic auxin .

synthesis

The synthesis of chloramben starts from benzoyl chloride , which is chlorinated with chlorine . The reaction with nitric acid leads to nitroaromatics and the subsequent reduction with tin and hydrochloric acid gives an amino group and thus the chloramben.

use

Chloramben is used as an active ingredient in pesticides . It is a systemic and selective growth agent herbicide .

The active ingredient chloramben is not approved for use in plant protection products in the European Union . In Germany, Austria and Switzerland are no pesticides approved containing chloramben.
