history

The Moscow Choir Art Academy was founded in 1991 on the basis of the Moscow Choir School , on the initiative of Prof. Victor S. Popow . He was also the first rector and artistic director .

The special school for choral music maintains the centuries-old tradition of Russian training for professional musicians in the field of choral art. Talented children are specifically trained in choral singing from early musical education to middle school and high school . Since 1996, the academy has also offered postgraduate courses and repetition courses. As was customary in the past, only boys from the age of 7 attend the choir school today. Girls aged 18 and over also study at the university . The Choir Art Academy trains seven choir ensembles : a boys' choir , a youth choir , a male choir and four mixed choirs , including the Moscow Cathedral Choir .

The repertoire of the academy ensembles encompasses the entire spectrum of sacred and secular music from ancient to modern . In addition to well-known masterpieces, premieres or rarely performed works can be found in their programs.

Small chamber ensembles as well as the full choir with over 200 members sing in the concerts of the academy , the latter performed at the performances of Mahler's 8th symphony and the oratorio Christ by Liszt .

The academy choirs stand with world-famous artists like u. a. Cecilia Bartoli , Andrea Bocelli , Montserrat Caballé , Renée Fleming , Makvala Kasrashvili and Jelena Obraszowa on stage. In addition to the most beautiful halls in Moscow, such as the Bolshoi Theater , the choir ensembles also give concerts in many famous churches and concert halls in Europe, Asia and America. The academy choirs are also regularly invited to international music festivals such as u. a. the Lake Constance Festival , the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Rheingau Music Festival , the Walkenried Cloister Concerts or the Obrasso Concerts in the KKL Luzern .

The academy ensembles have recorded over 2000 works for radio and television as well as for records and CD . The discography of the Choral Art Academy includes more than 30 recordings from Russian and European music labels .

The official recording of the Russian national anthem , which can be heard daily on the radio , is also sung by the Great Choir of the Moscow Choral Academy.
