Chris Barnes (musician)
Chris Barnes (born December 29, 1966 ) is a death metal singer from the United States . He was the front man of the death metal band Cannibal Corpse between 1988 and 1995 and has since sung with Six Feet Under . He also worked as a singer for the Finnish death metal band Torture Killer from 2005 to 2008 . Barnes is best known for his distinctive deep growling .
Cannibal Corpse
In 1988, Chris Barnes founded the death metal band Cannibal Corpse in Buffalo , New York, together with guitarists Bob Rusay and Jack Owen, bassist Alex Webster and drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz . They were already able to convince the record label Metal Blade with the first demo in 1988 , and in 1990 the band's debut album "Eaten Back To Life" was released. Chris Barnes left Cannibal Corpse in 1995 after five albums and a heated argument with the other band members. He then devoted himself to his second band, Six Feet Under , founded in 1993 .
Six Feet Under
Six Feet Under was originally a side project founded in 1993 by Chris Barnes and Obituary guitarist Allen West, when Barnes was still touring with the band Cannibal Corpse . The band was complemented by Terry Butler (bass, ex- death , ex- massacre ) and Greg Gall on drums. Since 1995, the quartet has released eight albums on the Metal Blade record label , which were very successful in metal circles. The albums "Graveyard Classics", "Graveyard Classics 2" and "Graveyard Classics 3", which contained cover versions of well-known metal and rock pieces, attracted particular attention. The self-confessed AC / DC fan Barnes covered the entire Back in Black album from AC / DC with the album Graveyard Classics 2. Also untypical for the genre is the song “One Bullet Left”, which Chris Barnes recorded with the American rapper Ice-T and which can be found on the album “True Carnage”. In 2005 the album "13" was released, in 2007 the album "Commandment". On November 19, 2008 the current album "Death Rituals" was released, a special edition of which also contains live recordings from Summerbreeze 2008 in Dinkelsbühl. As with Cannibal Corpse , Barnes is the front man and singer, and most of the lyrics come from his pen.
Torture killer
In autumn 2005 Barnes joined the Finnish death metal band Torture Killer as a permanent member , for whom he released the second album Swarm! sang. The band's name is based on a track from the Six Feet Under album Maximum Violence . In 2008 Barnes left the band, however.
