Chris Porter (born May 29, 1984 in Toronto , Ontario , Canada ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League since November 2016 . He previously spent eight years in the organization of the St. Louis Blues and ran one season for the Minnesota Wild .
Career
Chris Porter began his career as a hockey player with the Lincoln Stars, for which he was active in the junior league United States Hockey League in the 2002/03 season and with whom he won the Clark Cup . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the ninth round as a total of 282nd player by the Chicago Blackhawks , for which he however never played. Instead, he attended the University of North Dakota from 2003 to 2007 , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . The winger won the 2006 WCHA championship with his university team. On August 21, 2007 he signed a contract as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues , but initially played in the following three years mainly for their farm team Peoria Rivermen in the American Hockey League (AHL). In the 2007/08 season he made his first six games for the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League . Since 2010 he has been a regular on the ice for the NHL Blues team, but continues to play on the farm team at the Peoria Rivermen.
At the beginning of the 2013/14 season he regularly represented the injured Brenden Morrow , before he returned in November 2013 and Porter was again given to the AHL, to the new farm team Chicago Wolves . After a total of eight years in the organization of the Blues, his contract was not extended after the 2014/15 season, so he joined the Philadelphia Flyers as a free agent in August 2015 . When they wanted to send him to their farm team in the AHL in October 2015, he was signed by the waiver from the Minnesota Wild .
In Minnesota, after the 2015/16 season, Porter did not receive a further contract, so he joined the Providence Bruins from the AHL on probation in November 2016 , which soon became a permanent commitment.
International
For the USA Porter took part in the 2011 World Cup. He prepared a goal in seven games.
