Christa Zellmer

Christa Zellmer (née Holzheuer ; born November 5, 1930 in Ströbitz ; † October 14, 2002 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German politician ( SED ). In 1988/1989 she was the first secretary of the SED district leadership in Frankfurt (Oder) .

Life

Zellmer was born into a working class family. After attending primary school, she completed a commercial apprenticeship and then worked as a retail saleswoman. In June 1947 she became a member of the SED. In 1950 she took over the management of a youth outlet in Cottbus. From 1952 to 1965 she worked as secretary of the DFD district association Frankfurt (Oder). After studying at the party college "Karl Marx" with a degree in social science , she was employed as a secretary at the district council in 1965/1966 . She then acted from February 1966 to November 1988 as secretary for agitation and propaganda of the SED district leadership in Frankfurt (Oder) (successor to Wilfried Maaß ).

Zellmer was a candidate from June 1971 and from June 1975 to December 1989 a member of the Central Committee of the SED .

On November 3, 1988, Zellmer succeeded the first secretary of the SED district leadership in Frankfurt (Oder), Hans-Joachim Hertwig , who died at the end of September . It was the first and only time that a woman became the first secretary of an SED district leadership. On November 15, 1989, she resigned with the entire secretariat of the SED district leadership and justified the resignation from the joint responsibility for the pent-up problems in the district.
