Life

Born in 1787 in the city of Paderborn, Johann Georg Christian Bachmann grew up in the so-called " French era ". He learned to play the tuba and more came during the personal union between Britain and Hanover into the Kingdom of Hanover where in it before 1818 Hannover into the Leineschloss newly established court orchestra in Castle Opera House occurred. As a member of the court orchestra, Bachmann was obliged to perform public opera and concert service from 1817. The Hannöversche address book for the year 1817 located the "musician" who was initially only named by his last name and resided at Rademacherstraße 944 . After his appointment as royal court and chamber musician in 1818, the Hanoverian address book for 1819 recorded the address Sommerbrücke 944 for the now Christian Bachmann and “court musician” . But the address book of the following year 1820 already mentioned - "with the most gracious permission" - Dammstrasse 556 as the residence of the court musician. Bachmann worked in the court orchestra under the composer and conductor Heinrich Marschner until he retired on July 1, 1836.

In the meantime, Bachmann had already founded a music store in Hanover in 1820, which he soon made known far beyond the borders of Hanover as the owner. A decade after the company was founded, the Hanoverian address book stated that the court musician was the seat of the court musician, as did his "instrument, string and court music dealership" at 793 Leinstrasse .

Bachmann had appointed Adolph Nagel as the managing director of the company soon to be called Bachmann & Nagel , before Nagel took over the company in full in 1833.

After the court musician lived in the house of the Bachmann et Nagel "court music store, also dealers with instruments, strings, paper and art objects, such as the music lending institute, sheet music and copperplate printing ", the company became the court music store Adolph that same year Renamed Nagel . In fact, the individual parts of the company were divided into different companies: From 1836 the court musician Bachmann, now as Bachmann senior , also worked as an antiquarian and seller of pianofortes , while his son “ Bachmann, J. , jun. “Ran the string and instrument store in the same building at Leinstrasse 793. While Bachmann senior continued to live and work in Leinstraße, his son Joh.Bachmann moved the string and instrument business to Marktstraße 475 in 1838 .

Johann Georg Christian Bachmann was related to the composer Carl Maria von Weber and should not be confused with Carl Bachmann .
