Christian Brecher

Christian Brecher (born August 25, 1969 in Gummersbach ) is a German mechanical engineer and university professor . Since 2004 he has held the chair for machine tools and is a member of the board of directors of the WZL machine tool laboratory at RWTH Aachen University and of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT). Christian Brecher is Manfred Weck's successor . On January 1, 2018, he took over the management of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology.

Life

Christian Brecher studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University from 1990 to 1995, specializing in manufacturing technology . He then worked as a research assistant and later as a group leader in the area of ​​machine testing at the WZL. From 1999 to April 2001 he headed the machine technology division as chief engineer. In 2002 the doctorate to Dr.-Ing. and he received his habilitation with his thesis Comparative Analysis of Feed Drives for Machine Tools .

During his doctorate, Brecher was a scientific advisor at EADS Deutschland GmbH in Augsburg . After this consultancy in the aviation industry, he took over the management of the development department at DS Technologie Werkzeugmaschinenbau GmbH in Mönchengladbach in August 2001 , where he was responsible for the entire construction and development department until he left in December 2003.

In addition to the Springorum commemorative coin and the Borchers plaque from RWTH Aachen University, he received the study award from the Association of German Machine Tool Builders (VDW) and the Otto Kienzle commemorative coin from the Scientific Society for Production Technology .
