Christian Friedrich von der Osten (born December 17, 1740 in Rohrbeck (Arnswalde district) , † June 21, 1819 in Miltisch ( Steinau district )) was a Prussian major general , chief of the Dragoon Regiment No. 12 and knight of the Pour le Mérite order .

Life

His parents were Herr auf Rohrbeck and Captain Hans von der Osten (* 1697; † June 6, 1779) and his wife Sophie Christine Friederike von Beneckendorff (* December 11, 1719 in Kleinzow; † 1798).

Military career

In 1756, Osten became a private corporal in the "von Blanckensee" dragoon regiment . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Prague , Kolin , Breslau , Leuthen , Hochkirch , Kunersdorf , Torgau , Liegnitz , Freiberg as well as the siege of Dresden and the battle near Meißen. During that time he became ensign on February 7, 1758 and second lieutenant on January 14, 1760 .

After the war, he became Premier Lieutenant on October 28, 1767, and Chief of Staff on September 2, 1778 . In the War of the Bavarian Succession , Osten fought in battle near Trautenau. On October 1, 1789 he was promoted to major and on January 4, 1790 appointed squadron chief. In the First Coalition War he took part in the battle of Kaiserslautern and the skirmish of Hochheim, Limbach, Eschweiler and Bubenhausen. On January 7, 1793 he received the order Pour le Mérite for Hochheim. In addition, on February 25, 1793, he received permission to wear the military order of the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel.

On June 21, 1798, Osten became a lieutenant colonel and on June 19, 1799, a colonel . Then on April 4, 1801 he was commander of the "von Prittwitz" dragoon regiment. Shortly before the Fourth Coalition War on September 24, 1806 he was appointed head of the "von Brüsewitz" dragoon regiment. He took part in the campaign. After the Prussian defeat in the battle of Jena and Auerstedt , Osten withdrew to the Elbe with 1200 men and joined the " Blücher " corps . With this he had to capitulate at Ratkau. Therefore, he was made inactive on August 10, 1806 and set to half pay from August 10, 1807 . On October 20, 1809, Osten was promoted to major general. On December 1, 1813, he received his departure and a pension of 800 thalers. He died on June 21, 1819 in Miltisch (Steinau district). He was buried in the family funeral of the von Lüttwitz family in Talbendorf.

Osten married on February 9, 1790 in Ober Gläsersdorf , district of Lüben, Friederike August von Döring (* 1768; † November 15, 1833). The couple had no children, but had a foster son Friedrich Johann, who served as a second lieutenant in the 6th Infantry Regiment in 1819.
