Christian Huberts (* 1982 in Hildesheim ) is a German author and cultural scientist .

Life

Christian Huberts studied cultural studies and aesthetic practice at the University of Hildesheim from 2003 to 2008 . From 2009 he works as a freelance writer, lecturer and expert on computer games . He has been working at the GA Hochschule in Berlin since October 2014 , where he gives seminars on the dramaturgy of computer games and game studies, among other things . In addition, he regularly gives lectures on cultural studies at festivals , conferences and workshops and speaks on panel discussions for the Federal Agency for Civic Education , the Berlin International Literature Festival and the Heinrich Böll Foundation .

As an expert on the aesthetics and culture of computer games, he appears frequently on television and radio. For example, in the culture time on 3sat , the issues of the day in the ARD and reload on EinsPlus and at Studio 9 in Germany Kultur . In addition, he regularly comments on the political discourse on computer games in Germany, such as the so-called killer game debate, on which he is critical of politics digital . In August 2010 Blumenkamp Verlag published his monograph room temperature , a media and cultural studies analysis of computer games based on the theories of the Canadian literary scholar Marshall McLuhans . Sven Grampp wrote about it in the Zeitschrift für Medienwissenschaft : "Based on exemplary analyzes of some computer games, Huberts comes up with a very convincing, because variable, model for describing the participatory effect of media." In March 2012, together with Daniel Appel, Tim Raupach and Sebastian Standke, he gave the compilation Welt | Kriegs | Shooter published by Werner Hülsbusch. In August 2014, in cooperation with Sebastian Standke, the game studies anthology Between | Worlds followed , which gathers scientific and essayistic texts on Gernot Boehme's atmosphere theory in computer games. In addition, Hubert is author and editor for WASD - Bookazine for Games Culture and regularly publishes texts in online culture magazines and journals.
