Christian Karl Dietrich (born April 26, 1774 in Potsdam , † October 20, 1848 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Christian Karl was the son of master cooper Christian Dietrich and his wife Eva Rosine, née Fabian. His father later lived as a privateer in Potsdam.

Military career

Dietrich received his school education at the Lyceum in Potsdam. From there he came on July 1, 1792 as a trainee in the engineering corps and on November 28, 1791 was employed as an engineer geographer with a monthly salary of 30 thalers. During the First Coalition War he fought in the battles of Kaiserslautern and Pirmasens and the cannonade of Valmy . He was wounded during the siege of Mainz . Here Dietrich met the later General von Grawert and joined his infantry regiment on July 12, 1798 as an ensign . There Dietrich was promoted to Second Lieutenant on May 1, 1802 . Left in this regiment, he was from March 20, 1804 to March 14, 1805 as III. Adjutant at the General Staff. In the Fourth Coalition War Dietrich fought in the Battle of Jena , was involved in the surrender of Prenzlau while retreating and was taken prisoner there.

After the war, Dietrich came to the Gouvernement von Glatz on February 1, 1808 , rose to Prime Lieutenant at the beginning of November 1808 and became a captain of the General Staff on July 25, 1809 with a salary of 360 thalers. On October 17, 1810, he came to General von Grawert as 2nd adjutant. In the position he was promoted to captain on October 3, 1811 . As such, he took part in the battles at Eckau, Mesothen, and Schlockhof during the campaign in 1812 . After the campaign he was promoted to major on February 23, 1813 and transferred to Corps Yorck on March 10, 1813. During the Wars of Liberation , he fought in combat near Königswartha and acquired the Iron Cross, 2nd class , near Haynau . He also fought at Goldberg, Montmirail, Chateau-Thierry, Chalons, Claye and acquired the order of Saint Anne II class as well as a commendation for Großgörschen at the transition near Wartenburg . Dietrich fought near Bautzen , on the Katzbach . At Leipzig he acquired the Iron Cross First Class, fought again at Laon and received the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class for Paris . On August 30, 1814 Dietrich received his departure with the character of a lieutenant colonel .

He switched to the Landwehr and on June 21, 1815 came to the 3rd Kurmärk Landwehr Regiment and on August 31, 1815 to the 2nd Posen Landwehr Regiment. There he got the patent as a lieutenant colonel on October 12, 1815 . On November 24, 1816 he joined the 2nd Brandenburg Landwehr Regiment. There he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion of the 14th Landwehr Regiment on March 6, 1820, and promoted to colonel on April 3, 1820 . On March 20, 1829, he was given his own departure with a pension of 1750 thalers. On November 4, 1840 he received the character of major general. He died on October 20, 1848 in Berlin and was buried on October 28, 1848 in the old garrison cemetery.

family

In 1812 he married Regina Friederike du Moulin (1770–1835), widowed Spaltholz. After the death of his first wife, he married Friederike Wilhelmine Ernstine von Heinemann (* 1801) in Berlin on March 29, 1836, a daughter of the Brunswick major Karl Anton Ernst von Heinemann.
