Christine Schulz (* 1961 in Braunschweig ) is a German artist ( photography , media art , video art ).

Life

Schulz studied fine arts at the HBK Braunschweig with John Armleder , Birgit Hein and Thomas Virnich and was a master student of John Armleder.

In 2001 she received the sponsorship award from the Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven and in 2009 project sponsorship from the Nord / LB Public Foundation and the Braunschweigischer Kulturbesitz Foundation .

Christine Schulz explores the ambivalent character of the image as a reflection and construction of reality both in her media installations and in her photographic work. She demonstrates the transience of the moment by combining short video sequences or photographic elements into collage-like image structures. By connecting different elements, otherwise separated by space and time, familiar viewing habits and supposedly immovable truths are questioned. In accordance with this attitude, Schulz works on various socially relevant topics in different ways, depending on the context and exhibition situation. It is based on a comprehensive collection of self-produced photographs, video sequences and still images, as well as image and film material found in the media and on the Internet, which, through unusual combinations, creates new structures. The emphasis on the technical dimension of the media that Schulz uses for her installations is also striking. Projections are partly produced by media techniques that are hardly used today, such as overhead or slide projectors . Characteristic of the artist's installation approach is the construction of new spatial structures and systems of order that react to the given space. With the help of projections and temporary architectural elements, ephemeral installations are created that vary in their visual impact depending on the topic and context.

She lives in Berlin and Garbolzum.
