Christoph Andreas Büttner (* 1708 in Nuremberg ; † October 24, 1774 in Stralsund ) was a German educator .

Because he lost his parents at an early age, Büttner was raised by his grandfather Christoph Andreas Büttner, who was the rector of the school in Altdorf near Nuremberg . From 1717 he attended school and the public auditorium in Nuremberg. From 1724 he studied mathematics , physics and astronomy at the University of Altdorf with his great-uncle Johann Heinrich Müller and philosophy with JW Feuerlein , as well as dogmatics and theological exegesis with Bayer. He learned oriental languages ​​and also acted as a preacher .

In 1728 he received his doctorate as Magister philosophiae . Travels took him to southern and central Germany, especially Jena and Halle (Saale) . At the university there, he gave lectures in logic and became an adjunct in the philosophy faculty. He also taught philosophy, math, history, languages, and law. In 1736 he was a co-founder of the auditing society . He declined an appointment to the Frankfurt University. He also turned down the call to become an associate professor in Halle and instead went to Stettin in 1737 , where he was the rector of the council school. He was made a member of the Halle Latin Society in 1737 and a member of the Greifswald German Society in 1751 .

In 1755 Büttner went to Stralsund, where he succeeded Adolf Gideon Bartholdi as rector of the Stralsund grammar school there, which was housed in the former Dominican monastery of St. Katharinen . He ran the Stralsund high school for 20 years, until his death in Stralsund in 1774.

Büttner wrote works with a philosophical, theological, mathematical and educational content.
