Christian Heinrich Groskurd

Christian Heinrich Groskurd (born June 2, 1747 in Hullersen , † February 7, 1806 in Stralsund ) was a German educator .

Life

He was the older son of the pastor of Hullersen near Einbeck. His father gave him a thorough education. From 1767 to 1770 he studied philology in Göttingen , among others with Christian Gottlob Heyne . In 1770 he got a job as a sub-rector at the Stockholm Lyceum . There he learned the Swedish language . In 1775 he was vice-principal on which the former St. Catherine's Dominican monastery housed gymnasium Stralsund . After the death of the rector Carl Gotthelf Unger , Groskurd took over this office in 1779. One of his students was Ernst Moritz Arndt , who dedicated the work “The Stork and His Family” published in 1804 to him (and two other teachers). He wrote some pedagogical works and translated some works from Swedish into German. After he became seriously ill, he abdicated in 1804. He died on February 7, 1806.

Christian Heinrich Groskurd was married and had six children. His younger brother Christoph Gottlieb Groskurd attended the Stralsund grammar school, which is under the direction of his older brother.

Groskurd donated numerous works to the library of the grammar school, some with handwritten dedications and his handwritten notes, including Johann Christoph Gottsched's attempt at critical poetry for the Germans in 1737 and Philip Johan von Strahlberg's Das Nord- und Ostliche Part von Europa und Asia, in so This includes the whole of the Russian Empire with Siberia and the great Tatarey , Stockholm 1730. Held by the Stralsund City Archives since 1945 , these volumes appeared in second-hand bookshops in 2012 after the City of Stralsund had sold the high school library.
