Christoph Lasius
Christoph Lasius (born July 6, 1504 in Strasbourg , † August 25, 1572 in Senftenberg ) was a German Protestant theologian.
Life
Lasius first received his education in his hometown. He began studying at the University of Strasbourg there and went to Wittenberg University on October 19, 1522 . After the Wittenberg Movement he met Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon and attended their lectures. Melanchthon in particular made a deep impression on him.
At the Wittenberg University he obtained the Baccalauréat and on May 22, 1525 acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in the seven liberal arts . With Melanchthon's recommendation to Martin Bucer , he returned to his hometown. Back in Wittenberg in 1527, he went to Colditz as a schoolmaster in 1533 . There he was given the position of first rector at the grammar school in Görlitz in 1537 . He developed the school to great esteem.
After he had proven himself in the school service, he was ordained in Wittenberg in 1540 as a deacon in Arnstadt . In 1541 he took over the pastor's office in Greußen , in 1545 was a preacher at the Wittenberg Castle Church and in 1546 moved to the St. Nikolai Church in Spandau as senior pastor . As a Philippist , he had participated in the theological disputes of his time against the Gnesiolutherans . Especially in the synergistic dispute with Matthias Flacius , he emerged literarily with a pronounced polemic. Because of his beliefs, he was forced out of his offices several times.
The decisive factor for this was the antinomist dispute with Johannes Agricola . After he was dismissed from office on August 21, 1555, he led a restless life. In 1556 he stayed with his wife and children in Alzey in the Electoral Palatinate , where he met the theologian Johannes Marbach . He worked in Schmiedeberg , Lauingen , Strasbourg , Augsburg and Zeitz before he found a job as a pastor in Monstab in 1563 . But he couldn't stay here any longer. In 1567 he went to Küstrin as pastor , became superintendent in Cottbus in 1569 and found his last home as pastor in Senftenberg in 1570.
