Christophe Kerbrat (born August 2, 1986 in Brest ) is a French football player .

Career

Kerbrat started playing football in 1991 in his early childhood at Stade Plabennec . He remained loyal to the club through his youth and played tennis at the same time. As a 15-year-old, he was runner-up in this sport in his home region of Brittany , but gave up tennis a little later. In 2003, at the age of 17, he moved up to the first Plabennec team, which was competing under amateur conditions, and shortly thereafter turned down an offer from the professional club EA Guingamp . Even an offer from the nearby Stade Brest could not convince him to switch to paid football, as he preferred a future in amateur sport at the side of his friends. In addition to football, he worked in poultry farming. With Plabennec he made the leap into the fourth division in 2006 and rose to the third division in 2009. In the 2009/10 season, the team from Plabennec played their way into the national focus when they beat two top division clubs in the Cup with OGC Nice and AS Nancy before they were defeated by AJ Auxerre in the round of 16 . Kerbrat had remained under constant observation of the Breton clubs Brest and Guingamp and when Plabennec was relegated to fourth class in 2011, he turned his back on the club after a total of 20 years there and signed with the second class EA Guingamp.

The then 25-year-old made his professional debut in the second division on August 26, 2011, when he came on for Fatih Atik in a 1-0 win against FC Istres in the 81st minute . The player, mainly on the central defender position, then had to be content with sporadic missions, where he was mostly substituted. In the 2012/13 season, however, he became the undisputed regular player and made his contribution to Guingamp's promotion to the top French division at the end of the season. He made his first division debut on August 11, 2013 against Olympique Marseille and had to accept all three goals conceded in the first 16 minutes in the 1: 3 defeat. In the following time, however, his performance stabilized and he formed a central defense with the newly signed Jérémy Sorbon , which allowed relatively few goals against in the relegation battle. He was so unchallenged that he played the first 33 games of the season without missing a minute. In addition, he and the team made it into the French Cup final in 2014 , in addition to reaching the class , remained clean in the encounter against Breton rivals Stade Rennes and won the trophy thanks to the 2-0 victory. Guingamp qualified in this way for the Europa League 2014/15 , in which Kerbrat took part in the international competition for the first time and had to accept the elimination after surviving the group stage in the round of 32.
