Gaëtan Bussmann (born February 2, 1991 in Épinal , Lorraine ) is a French football player . Since summer 2020 he has been under contract in Germany with the second division club FC Erzgebirge Aue .

Career

Bussmann began playing football in his hometown in October 1997 in the youth team of the SAS Épinal . In June 2004 he switched to the youth academy ( Center de formation ) of FC Metz . In 2010 he won the French junior cup competition, the Coupe Gambardella, with its U-19 team . In the final, they defeated FC Sochaux's U-19s 5-4 on penalties.

On June 4, 2010, he signed his first professional contract with the Ligue 2 club, which was dated until June 2015. He made his professional debut on August 20, 2010 in a 1-0 win against OC Vannes in the starting line-up. This season he played twelve games, four times over 90 minutes. In the Coupe de France he was used in all three games of his team until he was eliminated in the round of 16. In the first half of the following season he made only two games due to some injuries.

On January 2, 2012 he returned on loan for five months to his former club SAS Épinal, who played in the third division , and gained match practice there. For the 2012/13 season he went back to FC Metz, which had recently been relegated to the third division, and established himself as a regular player. In the league cup competition he made three appearances - all over 90 minutes - and contributed one goal in each of the first two games. The Metzers, who were eliminated in the third round against SC Bastia , failed in the national cup competition in the first round at OGC Nice ; Bussmann played through in this game as well. At the end of the season he rose directly back to the second division with FC Metz. In the following season he scored his first goal in professional football on August 2, 2013 on the first day of the game against Stade Laval with the 1-0 winner. Bussmann established himself in the French second class; he had 36 missions and contributed four hits. FC Metz rose to Ligue 1 at the end of the season . Bussmann was considered one of the top performers in the promotion season. FC Metz ended the second division season with the fewest goals.

On August 9, 2014 Bussmann made his Ligue 1 2014/15 debut with a 0-0 draw on the first matchday at OSC Lille ; he was in the starting line-up. On September 24, he scored his first goal in this league when he scored the 1-0 winning goal on matchday 7 against the then cup winner and Europa League participant EA Guingamp . In 31 missions he scored two goals and gave four assists. FC Metz was relegated immediately; the club received 61 goals.

At the end of August 2015, Bussmann moved to the German Bundesliga for 1. FSV Mainz 05 . He signed a two-year contract that included an option to extend. He made his Bundesliga debut on January 23, 2016 in the 1-0 defeat in the away game against FC Ingolstadt . He scored his only Bundesliga goal on February 12, 2016 (21st matchday) in a 2-1 win at home against FC Schalke 04 with the goal to make it 1-0 in the 33rd minute.

After he was not used in the first half of the 2017/18 season at Mainz 05 due to an injury, he joined Bundesliga rivals SC Freiburg on loan at the end of January 2018 until the end of the season . He only made one game for his second team in the regional league . He returned to Mainz 05 for the 2018/19 season , but only played one game for the professionals and three appearances for the second team . When his contract expired, Bussmann left the club at the end of the season.

On September 10, 2019, he joined the French second division club EA Guingamp until the end of the season . There he was first used twice in the Réserve Pro in National 2 and finally played eight games for the second division team until the season was canceled at the end of April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . EA Guingamp finished eighth at the end of the season. Bussmann returned to Germany on August 1, 2020 and joined the second division club FC Erzgebirge Aue , with whom he signed a contract that runs until 2022.

National team

Bussmann played for the French U-18, U-19 and U-20 youth national teams. From 2009 to 2010 he made nine international matches for the U-19s. His greatest achievement was winning the 2010 European Under-19 Football Championship in France. In 2011 he was appointed to the squad of the French U-20 national team, for which he played three games.

Style of play

In the promotion season of FC Metz 2013/14 Bussmann regularly hit after corner kicks with a header . His speed and his dribbling actions on the outside lanes are also highlighted. He is considered dynamic, flexible and hard worker. Bussmann himself compares his style of play with that of Gareth Bale .
