biography
Christopher Beckmann grew up in Altamont and learned to ski in the nearby Maple Ridge ski area near Schenectady . He later moved to Guilderland , where he graduated from high school in 2004 . Beckmann first took part in FIS races in January 2002 and started in the Nor-Am Cup in February 2003 . His breakthrough came in the winter of 2003/04, when he first won his first FIS race, then achieved sixth place in the downhill run of the Junior World Championship in Maribor in 2004 and finally the Nor-Am Cup downhill on Big Mountain on February 26th won. In the 2004/05 season he stayed in the Nor-Am Cup without a podium, but improved in the downhill classification by two places to eighth. At the Junior World Championships 2005 in Bardonecchia , he won the silver medal in the downhill behind the Slovenian Rok Perko .
At the beginning of the 2005/06 season , Christopher Beckmann made his first two World Cup descents . With the places 53 in Lake Louise and 41 in Beaver Creek he ended up only in the eighth last position. In the Nor-Am Cup, however, he was able to win the downhill from Lake Louise and with two further podium places in the 2005/06 season, he achieved second place in the downhill classification behind his compatriot Jake Zamansky . At the Junior World Championship in Québec in 2006 , he won the gold medal in the downhill with a lead of almost three tenths of a second over the Austrian Romed Baumann . He was also fifth in the Super-G. With his junior world champion title, he also had the opportunity to start the downhill at the World Cup finals in Åre . However, he could not compete with the world's best downhill riders and finished in over four seconds only in 19th and last place.
In the 2006/07 season Beckmann took part in another three World Cup runs, but although he was one of the strongest downhill runs in the Nor-Am Cup, he did not achieve any good results in the World Cup. With 56th place in Lake Louise and 46th in Beaver Creek, he ended up just under the last seven twice, only in Val-d'Isère he left behind as 41st 20 runners. With these results he could not recommend himself for further World Cup starts. After January 2007 it was no longer used in any World Cup races. In the Nor-Am Cup, Beckmann's best result in the 2006/07 season was third in the first downhill run from Lake Louise and sixth overall. In the Super-G, he was twice in the top ten, making it the top 10 in this discipline for the first time. The following winter was again a third place in the second downhill of Lake Louise Beckmann's best result and again he reached sixth place in the downhill classification. In March 2008 he achieved his best result in the US championships with third place in the downhill.
Beckmann started in the European Cup as early as January 2005, but initially only rarely made it into the points. This changed in January 2008 when he first achieved ninth place in the downhill in Sarntal / Reinswald and won the Super-G two days later. Another six days later he achieved seventh place in the EC downhill from Chamonix . But he could not repeat these results afterwards. Beckmann remained at his level in the Nor-Am Cup. In the 2008/09 season he drove twice in the top five in the downhill and super-G, was fourth in the downhill classification and fifth in the super-G classification. In his last season 2009/10 he reached a podium again with third place in the second downhill of Lake Louise and came in sixth in the discipline classification. In the Super-G, however, he only won a few points and fell far behind. Beckmann's last race was the US downhill championship on February 27, 2010, in which he finished fifth as the fourth-best American.
