Christopher Ellery (born November 1, 1768 in Newport , Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations , †  December 2, 1840 in Middletown , Rhode Island ) was an American politician ( Democratic-Republican Party ), the state of Rhode Island in the US -Senate represented.

Christopher Ellery was a nephew of William Ellery , who sat for Rhode Island in the Continental Congress . After graduating from Yale College in 1787, he studied law , was inducted into the bar and began practicing law in Newport. From 1794 and 1798 he was employed as a clerk at the Superior Court of Newport County .

After the resignation of US Senator Ray Greene , Christopher Ellery was elected as his successor; he took office in Congress on May 6, 1801. Ellery ran for re-election in 1804, but was defeated by James Fenner and had to leave the Senate on March 3, 1805. The following year, US President Thomas Jefferson appointed him Federal Commissioner of Loans for the administration of federal bonds in the area of ​​the state of Rhode Island with official seat in Providence . Finally, Ellery held the office of customs collector ( Collector of Customs ) in Newport from 1820 to 1834 .
