Christ Church (Gemünden)
The Protestant Christ Church is located in the immediate vicinity of the train station in Gemünden am Main . It was inaugurated in 1910.
history
In 1895 the first Protestant church service took place in Gemünden am Main in the hall of the “Deutscher Kaiser” hotel. At the beginning of the 20th century, a hillside property opposite the train station was acquired for a separate church outside of what was then the core city . The Christ Church stands between the old town and the settlements in the east. The building was rebuilt and renovated several times inside and out between 1960 and 2008 . The rectory was only built in 1999/2000.
description
A flight of stairs on the embankment next to the retaining wall leads to the level of the church. The asymmetrical complex of different building parts was built in the historicizing Art Nouveau style. The hall church is a plastered masonry building on a rusticated substructure . The nave is covered with a gable roof. The windows are framed with stone . The portal is behind the arcades of an open vestibule. A smaller tower is built on the northwest side, flush with the gable front . It has a multi-tiered hood , which is crowned by a lantern . To the right of this, offset to the rear, is the significantly higher and massive bell tower , which carries a staggered pyramid roof , finished with a tower ball and weather valve . On the left side the church has a spacious transept with a hipped gable roof.
The interior is characterized by white, unadorned walls and a stencil painting of light ocher and gray in the choir . The severity is softened by the warm brown of the wood of the coffered barrel vault and the gallery for the organ . The pulpit is to the right of the choir arch .
Monument protection
The church building is a listed building . It was recorded under the file number D-6-77-131-11 in the list of monuments of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .
