Clark Stede

Clark Stede (* 1949 ) is a German photographer and journalist , he became known as a long-distance and blue water sailor .

Life

At first he sailed his long sea ​​voyages one-handed , following old sailing routes, with his 9 m steel slup "Asma". First he sailed through the Red Sea to Oman . From there he set out in mid-December 1984 and followed Sindbad's route to India , via the Laccadives , Sri Lanka and Malaysia .

In 1985 the Asma and Stede were the first western single-handed yacht to reach China . After exploring off the usual routes in Micronesia , Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands , he spent the typhoon season in Australia .

There he met the filmmaker Michelle Poncini , who accompanied him on the further trip. The couple sailed non-stop in 30 days to the Chagos Archipelago in the middle of the Indian Ocean , then to Madagascar . From there they followed the old spice route via the Comoros , Tanzania , Zanzibar , Kenya and Yemen to the Red Sea.

From 1990 to 1993, Clark Stede sailed around the American double continent together with Michelle Poncini. The team first conquered the Northwest Passage with the 13 m long aluminum slup "Asma", which was newly built for this trip , then penetrated to Canada , Mexico , Costa Rica , Ecuador and Chile via Cape Horn to the Antarctic and returned via Argentina , Brazil , the Caribbean , Central and North America back to Europe . On June 19, 1993, they crossed the route that had taken them to Greenland 1,300 days earlier .

Clark Stede has lived in Chile since 1994, where he set up a hacienda for nature-based riding holidays.
