Clarksville is the county seat of Johnson County in the northwest of the US state Arkansas . According to the last census in 2011, the city had 9251 inhabitants. Its area is 48.6 km².
The Presbyterian Church of the United States maintains the private University of the Ozarks in Clarksville .
The ten-part documentary "Off to War" tells the story of National Guardsmen in a pioneer unit from Clarksville from being drafted to Iraq to returning home.

Clarksville is located in central northwest Arkansas, south of Johnson County, on Spadra Creek , north of the Arkansas River .
history
Clarksville was founded in November 1836 after Johnson County was established. The first trial was held in a private house in 1837. On December 21, 1848, Clarksville received local government .
The first settlers started to produce tobacco, but most later grew cotton. The first coal mines were opened in 1840, but they were no longer profitable after the end of the Civil War .
Augustus M. Ward built a school for the blind in 1849 and a public school was opened in 1851, which is now the University of the Ozarks.
Demographics
In the penultimate census in 2011 , 2,960 households were counted. These included 1,918 families. The population density was 166 per km². 3,240 residential units were recorded in the village. Among the population, 87.6% were white, 3.5% African-American, 0.4% American Indian, 0.5% Asian, and 6.2% from other races; 1.9% said they belonged to several ethnic groups. Of the 2,960 households, 30.6% had children under the age of 18; 30.0% were single households. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.01. The population was divided into 23.9% under 18 years of age, 12.5% from 18 to 24 years of age, 27.3% from 25 to 44 years of age, 20.0% from 45 to 64 years of age and 16.3% from 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years.
The median household income was $ 24,548 and the median family income was $ 30,758. The per capita income for Clarksville was $ 16,305. 20.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.
