Clemens Godefridus Antonius Franciscus Mersmann (born March 30, 1788 in Dülmen , † September 29, 1867 in Coesfeld ) was a German administrative lawyer and politician.

Life

Clemens Mersmann was born as the son of the married couple Clemens August Mersmann and Sophia Mersmann née Engeler and grew up with seven siblings in Dülmen.

Career

He initially studied at the University of Münster and continued his studies at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1808 he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg . On October 4, 1810, he passed his exam at the Recklinghausen Court of Appeal with the remark "very well passed". Three days later he was appointed advocate for the Duchy of Arenberg . At the beginning of 1811 Mersmann was appointed deputy to the French justice of the peace in Dülmen; in April he became a lawyer at the French tribunal in Munster. In 1813 Mersmann was mayor of Dülmen and in the summer of 1816, thanks to the king, he became a government assessor for the government in Münster and then the district commissioner of the newly formed Prussian district of Ahaus . In 1823 he moved to the district of Coesfeld as district administrator , where he held the office for more than four decades until his death in 1867.

family

In August 1819 he married Anna Pauline Antonette von Schlebrügge, daughter of Johann David Paul von Schlebrügge , district administrator of the Lüdinghausen district. From this marriage 10 children were born. Her son Clemens Mersmann , who was born in Ahaus , also became district administrator in the Rhine Province .
