from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clemens August Aloys Maria Mersmann (born August 29, 1820 in Ahaus ; † March 30, 1872 in Münster ) was a Prussian officer and district administrator in the Wipperfürth district (1852–1855) and Saarburg (1855–1871) in the Rhine Province .

Life

Origin and education

As the son of the then district administrator of the Ahaus district and from 1823 of the Coesfeld district , Clemens Mersmann and his wife Anna Pauline Antonette Mersmann, née von Schlebrügge, Clemens Mersmann grew up in his father's places of work. After joining the Prussian military as an active soldier on August 8, 1837, he was accepted on the following August 29 as a portepee - ensign in the 8th Uhlan Regiment , which was stationed in Düsseldorf at the time . On January 12, 1838, he was also appointed second lieutenant there . He took his leave on March 18, 1851 with his patent as prime lieutenant in army uniform, this combined with the prospect of a subsequent civilian pension.

Career

Shortly before his formal retirement from military service, Clemens Mersmann entered the Prussian administrative service on February 21, 1851 as an unskilled worker for the Royal Prussian Government in Düsseldorf and as a result of his military patent in the capacity of a trainee . On the part of his employer, he was referred to the district administrator of the district of Geldern , Max Graf von Loë , for further training . It was probably intended to transfer the administration of the district of Geldern to Mersmann on a permanent basis after the end of the provisional management, which had been ongoing since 1851, by von Loë. Ultimately, however, Clemens Mersmann was entrusted with the simultaneous implementation of the previous district administrator of the Wipperfürth district, Julius Wiethaus, and with the rescript of February 25, 1852, with the provisional administration of this district from April of that year. He served there until October 31, 1855. Before that, he had received his appointment as district administrator of the Saarburg district on September 3, with the highest cabinet order (inauguration on November 5, 1855).

At his own request on August 1, 1871 and with the Dimissoriale on August 9, Clemens Mersmann retired on October 1, 1871 with a pension.

family

The Catholic Clemens Mersmann married Agnes von Olfers (born October 22, 1824 in Münster; † 1896 ibid.) On August 31, 1852 in Münster, a daughter of Klemens von Olfers, who was (most recently) the Prussian Privy Councilor of Justice and President of the Appeal Court, and his wife Anna von Olfers née Driver.
