Jakob Schaefgen

Jakob Schaefgen (born August 9, 1898 in Birresborn , † December 2, 1967 in Saarburg ) was a German district administrator .

Life and origin

After attending the Regino-Gymnasium in Prüm , he studied New Languages , History and Economics in Munich and Bonn from 1918 to 1923 , where in 1923 he wrote “Der Familiarismus, a moral and political basic idea in counter-revolutionary literary endeavors von De Bonald, Le Play, Bourget and Bordeaux ”to the Dr. phil. received his doctorate. After joining the local government, he worked for the mayor's office in Dormagen , as well as the district offices of Prüm and Bernkastel, in the latter of which he was entrusted with the management of the district welfare offices. In the period of May 23, 1945 to March 6, 1946 he was official mayor in Konz and after he was until March 31, 1947 Acting District Administrator of the district Prüm . Due to his membership in the sacrificial ring of the NSDAP and other Nazi organizations, Schaefgen's salary was cut by one seniority level by the French military government . From April to December 1947 he worked as a councilor at the Koblenz district office and was transferred from there to the Saarburg district in December 1947 as a provisional district administrator , who was finally appointed on June 1, 1948 . In Saarburg, Schaefgen u. a. busy repairing the damage caused during the war. After suffering a stroke in 1956 , he was retired in 1958. In 1966 he was awarded the coat of arms of honor for his services to the reconstruction of the Saarburg district.
