Wilhelm Cattrein (born July 3, 1781 in Prüm ; † missing since December 26, 1850, presumably in Düsseldorf ) was a Prussian district administrator (by order) and mayor of Prüm.

Life and origin

The Catholic Cattrein was the son of a businessman and later worked as a merchant himself. In 1808 he was a founding member of the Triomphe de Napoléon lodge in Prüm. From 1812 he was mayor of Prüm, from 1814 to 1817 he was district director and from 1816 to 30 April 1817 he was provisional administrator of the district of Prüm . From 1818 he was quaestor , treasurer , justice of the peace and district taker in Wesel on the Lower Rhine . From 1826 to 1830 he was a member of the Rhenish provincial parliament , and from 1830 a member of the administrative commission of the rural poor house in Trier .

Circumstances of death

Cattrein was reported missing in Düsseldorf on the evening of December 26, 1850, on the assumption that he would have found his death in the Rhine . His coat, which he last wore and which was found on the landing stage of Dutch steamers , was later identified by his family as belonging to him. Thereupon, on January 2, 1851 , the royal chief procurator of Kösteritz arranged for a missing person to be reported in the official gazette for the Düsseldorf administrative region with a corresponding signaling (German: short description of the person ). In the meantime, when the district treasury was revised on December 30, 1850, what it was called was a " significant defect " which, in conjunction with other circumstances, led to the assumption that Cattrein was guilty of embezzling cash funds. Ultimately, he was supposed to be arrested for this reason, which was no longer necessary, since his body was found on February 13, 1851.

family

Cattrein had been married to Anna Maria Viktoria, nee Lintz, since 1811.
