Cold Spring (English for " cold spring ") is a city in Stearns County in the state of Minnesota in the United States . In 2017 the city had 4108 inhabitants. It is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Area.
geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, Cold Springs has an area of 6.99 km², of which about 6.92 km² is land and 0.07 km² is water. The city is geographically located in Wakefield Township , but is not part of it. Surrounding places are Jacobs Prairie in the northeast, Rockville in the east, Watkins in the south and Richmond in the west.
The city is on Minnesota State Route 23 between Paynesville and St. Cloud.
history
The city of Cold Spring was founded in 1856. The city got its name from its location near several smaller springs . Cold Spring has had a post office since 1857 , which was called Cold Spring City until 1889 , when it was shortened to Cold Spring .
For the city of Cold Spring, three cultural monuments are registered in the United States' National Register of Historic Places , the John Oster House , the Ferdinand Peters House (both built in 1907) and the Eugene Hermanutz House, built in 1912 .
The city received international attention on September 24, 2003 when a 15-year-old student from the local Rocori High School shot dead two of his classmates. The perpetrator was later arrested.

The adult contemporary radio station KMXK (94.9 FM) comes from Cold Spring . Furthermore, radio stations from St. Cloud and via medium wave from the more distant Minneapolis can be heard. Cold Spring does not have its own television station. The best channels to receive in Cold Spring are KPXM from St. Cloud and KSAX from Alexandria .
