The Coma consumer markets GmbH & Co KG was a hypermarket chain in the north-west of Germany . The private company was based in Meppen .

history

In 1977 the first Coma store was founded in Haselünne based on the expertise of the two founders, the brothers Theodor and Johannes Cordes. Therefore, the name derives, Co rdes- Ma rkt. Theodor Cordes was a trained businessman and Johannes Cordes started a commercial apprenticeship.

In 1980 the next Cordes brother joined the company. In the same year the second branch opened in Esterwegen .

On November 18, 2014 it was announced that the Bünting Group would take over 26 of the then 31 Coma stores on February 1, 2015, with the remaining stores being closed as unprofitable. On February 1st, Bünting integrated the stores into its subsidiary Combi .

The company employed around 1400 people. The company's markets were open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The private company occasionally offered a Sunday bakery service.

Market policy

The company's market philosophy was primarily based on customer proximity.
