history

Entrance to the Quatmannsburg

At Calhorner Mühlenbach there are the remains of a ring wall system called “ Quatmannsburg ”. The main part of the castle is formed by a circular rampart 90 to 100 m in diameter. Its wall is up to 2 m high and up to 22 m wide. The age of the plant is not known. However, there are more finds from the 11th and 12th centuries. The castle owes its name to the current property owners.

The first documentary mention was in 1159, when Cappeln broke away from Emstek and founded an independent parish. The name "Cappeln" means "chapel". The first church was built in Cappeln before 1150, and it only had to be demolished in 1900. The villages of Elsten, Bokel, Tenstedt and Osterhausen were first mentioned in a document in 1217. After lengthy negotiations, the first chapel was built between Warnstedt and Elsten in 1889.

The place Sevelten is already mentioned in an imprecisely dated document of the Corvey monastery from the period between 1000 and 1090 as "Swiveldon", later "Svivulten" (1110). The first chapel in Sevelten is from this time.

Former monastery Christinenhof of the Dominican Sisters in Schwichteler

The place Schwichteler received a Dominican monastery in 1929, called Christinenhof. On December 31, 2015, the monastery, which had been run as an educational institution, was closed. Unaccompanied refugee minors are currently housed in the building.
