history

The roots of the Competec group lie in Brack Consulting, founded in 1994 by Roland Brack as a sole proprietorship in Bözen . Back then, Brack sold PCs that were self-assembled using individual parts. In 1996 he relocated his activities to Mägenwil, where the company's legal headquarters were also relocated in 1997.

In 1999 Brack Consulting opened its own online shop and shortly afterwards its own logistics center . At the end of 2001, a shop-in-shop solution for resellers was put into operation. In order to create a better basis for price negotiations and quality assurance for direct imports from Asia, Roland Brack opened a purchasing office in Taiwan in 2002 . In 2003 the company was converted into a stock corporation and renamed Brack Electronics AG .

In 2006, Brack Electronics took over COS Distribution AG, located in the same building complex, and renamed the company Alltron AG , as part of the company was called before the merger with COS Distribution AG. At the same time, IT, warehouse and customer service of the two companies were merged. After Brack Electronics had already won the Disti-Award in the component distribution category from IT-Reseller magazine in 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2006 , the Aargau-based company was voted best component distributor in Switzerland for the fifth time in 2007 by around 1,000 IT dealers.

Several acquisitions followed in 2007 . On the one hand, Brack Electronics took over the customer base of two IT companies; on the other hand, it acquired the distributor Wyscha Computer AG . With 28 employees, it achieved an annual turnover of 55 million francs. The growth led to the establishment of Competec Holding AG in December 2007 as the parent company of the group of companies. Another acquisition followed in 2008 with the takeover of Phonet Suisse , a turnover of 15 million with eleven employees.

2011 was a year of reorganization and restructuring. The subsidiaries Wyscha Computer AG and Phonet Suisse SA were merged with Alltron AG. Alltron and Brack Electronics each received their own management team and their own marketing, sales and purchasing departments. The new department “Alltron Solutions” was founded at Alltron, which specializes in combined networking solutions between IT, entertainment electronics and telecommunications.

The Competec Group has been delivering its goods from Willisau since April 2012 . For this purpose, the company acquired the former Lego plant , which serves as a logistics center with a total operating area of 55,000 square meters.

The logistics center was equipped with modern warehouse technology over a period of several months, including the world's largest “Autostore” system in spring 2012, a compact, automatic small parts warehouse . In June 2012, the Competec Group presented the logistics center to the population, customers, suppliers, business and politics in a three-day large-scale event. In addition, a pop concert with national singers was organized. In late summer 2012, the group announced that it was outsourcing its serial PC production. A year later, Brack Electronics' old online shop was completely redesigned and adapted to the needs of customers.

In 2014, Brack Electronics AG became BRACK.CH AG due to the constant further development of the product ranges in the online shop . In the same year, the dealers OHC Computer and DayDeal.ch were taken over and recorded the greatest organic growth in the company's history. Alltron AG also received a new online presence.

After the abolition of the minimum euro exchange rate in 2015, the various services at Alltron and BRACK.CH were expanded: Saturday deliveries, extended order periods, same-day delivery, installation and home service as well as gift packaging. Cooperations were entered into with siroop.ch and notime AG as well as with INTERSPORT Switzerland, for whose online presence BRACK.CH is responsible.

In December 2016, the Competec Group communicated the takeover of Jamei AG, retroactively to October 1, 2016. Over the past three decades, Jamei AG had established itself as an important partner for the Swiss retail trade in the living, household and kitchen sectors. With the takeover of Jamei AG, the Competec Group succeeded in gaining a stronger foothold in the rapidly growing Home & Living area and in providing sustainable support to its Living & Household business unit. The Competec Group is also expanding in this area. On April 1, 2019, Jamei.ch will take over the distribution of the brands of Thurnherr Austausch GmbH and can thus further expand its position in Home & Living.

With the introduction of the "BRACK.CH Order Button", the company polarized in Swiss e-commerce . It was the first in-house development that consists of an order button and an associated app. Urgently needed (consumable) items can be ordered at the push of a button - without a PC , tablet or smartphone . Alltron launched a service marketplace . This is an online platform that focuses on trading services and minimizes the administrative burden for traders.

On September 6, 2017, BRACK.CH launched the new online shop. The delivery options have been expanded to include the PickMup locations of the Migros Group . After the ranges coffee and tea (since 2007), near-food (started with Procter & Gamble in 2014) as well as pet supplies and sports nutrition were introduced, the company has also been in the grocery trade with non-perishable foods since March 6, 2018 got in.

In 2018, the corporate group restructured and the responsibilities were reassigned: Markus Mahler withdrew from operational business in the course of the restructuring and added to the board of directors. Marc Isler took over the office of CEO of BRACK.CH AG and Markus Messerer that of Alltron AG. Since the spring, Martin Lorenz, the post of CEO of the entire Competec Holding AG, has been filled with a long-standing management member; Roland Brack remains Chairman of the Board of Directors .

Because the logistics center in Willisau was bursting at the seams, the decision was made to start building the third robot system for small parts. The third auto store warehouse will be larger than AutoStore I and II combined and offer space for around 170,000 containers (planned to go into operation in autumn 2019).

Due to the acute shortage of space, an expansion of the logistics center had been planned for some time, but could not be implemented as planned due to objections. In February 2019, the Competec Group decided to start construction work for it ( excavation and civil engineering ). The Federal Supreme Court ruled in October that “the complaint did not have suspensive effect”. At the beginning of April, the building complaint was finally rejected by the federal court and the extension in Willisau can be completed, because according to the court, the planning was in accordance with the law.

In January 2020 around 500 own brands of Dirk Rossmann GmbH were added to the range.

Sports funding

As a Swiss company, the group wants to promote young people - Competec Service AG trains apprentices in various professional fields every year - and support athletes. BRACK.CH in particular has been sponsoring this for a long time : in 2013, the online retailer expanded its social commitment with the title sponsorship of the Challenge League , the second highest football league in Switzerland. The partnerships between BRACK.CH and Swiss sport are now becoming more and more diverse. In 2016, a one-year sponsorship with the Swiss Triathlon Team was entered into. The individual sponsorships made at that time by Jolanda Annen , Florin and Andrea Salvisberg are still being carried on well. In addition to regional and local events and sports clubs such as the Willisau wrestling club or the Reitnau hill climb, national projects such as the Migros Grand Prix, the Raiffeisen Snow and Football Camps as well as eSports teams or the non-profit organization Labdoo (with PC donations) are supported. In June 2018 the partnership with Swiss-Ski was announced: BRACK.CH became the official junior partner for Alpine skiing and supports the four junior skiers Juliana Suter , Lars Rösti , Sandro Simonet and Ramon Zenhäusern .
