Conrad Albrecht (born October 7, 1880 in Bremen , † August 18, 1969 in Hamburg ) was a German General Admiral in World War II .

Military career

Albrecht joined the Imperial Navy on April 10, 1899 as a midshipman . He completed his basic training on the cruiser frigate SMS Stosch . After further assignments, Albrecht was appointed captain lieutenant (since March 27, 1909) with the outbreak of the First World War on September 1, 1914, as chief of the 1st torpedo boat semi-flotilla. On October 12, 1916, he was promoted to captain of the corvette , and on January 16, 1917, Albrecht became chief of the destroyer flotilla Flanders . He kept this command until October 31, 1918.

He then worked until March 12, 1920 on the staff of the Baltic Sea Naval Station . He then took over as chief of the I. Baltic Sea Minesweeping Flotilla until September 1920 and then the I. Flotilla until March 27, 1923. There he was promoted to frigate captain on March 1, 1923 . On March 28, 1923 he became the commandant of the Kiel Naval Arsenal and on September 12, 1925, he was promoted to sea captain on May 1, 1925 , as chief of staff at the Baltic Sea naval station. On December 1, 1928, he moved to the naval management as head of the naval officer personnel department . There he was promoted to Rear Admiral on April 1, 1930 . On September 29, 1930 Albrecht was appointed commander of the reconnaissance forces in the Navy.

On October 1, 1932, while being promoted to Vice Admiral, he was appointed Chief of the Baltic Sea Naval Station. He stayed in this position even when it was renamed Commanding Admiral of the Baltic Sea Naval Station on July 4, 1935. On December 1, 1935, Albrecht was promoted to Admiral and on November 1, 1938, was appointed Naval Group Commander East.

Promoted to General Admiral on April 1, 1939 as the second naval officer after Erich Raeder , Albrecht headed the operations of the German navy during the attack on Poland at the beginning of World War II .

On December 31, 1939 it was passed; The very next day he was made available to the Navy, but was no longer used for active service.
