Life

Promotions

Weise joined the imperial army on September 27, 1904 and was assigned to the artillery . After the outbreak of World War I , he was seriously wounded as first lieutenant in the 1st Westphalian Field Artillery Regiment No. 7 in September 1914 and was unable to serve for several months. After his promotion to captain on January 27, 1915 , he was subsequently employed as a battery chief and staff officer. After the end of the war, he first joined a volunteer corps before he was accepted into the Reichswehr in 1920 . There he was company commander until the beginning of 1927 . He then moved to the Ministry of Defense , where he was promoted to major on July 1, 1927 . In 1931 he became the commander of Fahrabteilung 3, which under his leadership was converted into a camouflaged flaka division until 1934 .

In 1934, Weise became chief of staff at the inspector of the anti-aircraft cartillery and air defense , General Günther Rüdel , and with this he joined the newly formed air force in 1935. In the autumn of the same year he became the commander of the flak cartillery in Luftgau II with an appointment as major general in August 1936. On April 1, 1938, Weise was appointed commanding general in Luftgau III ( Berlin ) and promoted to lieutenant general.

Shortly after the beginning of the Second World War, in October 1939, Weise was promoted to general of the flak cartillery and moved to the head of the I. Flak Corps. This corps took part in the 1940 campaign in the west as part of Army Group A and achieved high shooting figures , particularly when it came to securing the Meuse crossings against Allied bombing raids. Thus, on July 19, Weise (like some other commanders) was promoted to Colonel General above his current position and received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross .

In autumn 1940, Weise took over the leadership of the air defense forces in the Reich capital. In a study from January 1941 he suggested the reorganization of the air defense of the Reich under a central command authority. In March 1941, Weise was appointed Luftwaffe Commander Middle with the powers of an Air Fleet Commander who was responsible for the air defense of the Reich territory including Denmark . In the wake of the increasing Allied bomber offensive , he finally came under fire and was replaced by Hans-Jürgen Stumpff in January 1944 . He spent the rest of the war in a number of meaningless special assignments or was at the disposal of Hermann Göring . From May 16, 1945 to July 1947 he was an Allied prisoner of war .
