Conrad Julius Ernst Graf von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt (born June 24, 1886 in Perleberg , † January 11, 1959 in Neumünster , buried in Ascheberg ) was a German officer and landowner.

Life

Conrad von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt was a son of Konrad von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt and his wife Elisabeth, born von Jagow (born December 13, 1861 in Quitzow; † January 27, 1953 in Ascheberg).

After attending the scholarly school in Plön, which he left with the Abitur in 1905, Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt studied law at the University of Heidelberg in 1905/06 . On May 16, 1906, he joined the 1st Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 17 of the Prussian Army in Ludwigslust as a lieutenant . As a passionate soldier and officer, he enjoyed the highest esteem among his subordinates. Because of his skills as a rider, he was repeatedly assigned to the military riding schools in Paderborn and Hanover .

During the First World War Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt fought on the eastern and western fronts in 1914/18 . For the last two years of the war he led western infantry units. He received in addition to both classes of the Iron Cross , the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords and other medals. In 1919 he retired from military service as Rittmeister .

Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt then did an agricultural training. From 1923 he managed his father's Ascheberg estate, which he inherited after his father's death. He worked hard and hard so that the property survived the global economic crisis without any problems . With the expansion of the Reichswehr Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt joined the 14th Cavalry Regiment in Ludwigslust as a reserve officer after 1933 . When the war broke out, the Deputy General Command in Hamburg drafted him immediately. In January 1940 he took over the command of the driving replacement department 10 in Neumünster . His military service ended in 1942 as a lieutenant colonel in the reserve due to health problems .

Immediately after the end of the war, Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt was committed to creating orderly conditions and rebuilding the country. He co-founded the Schleswig-Holstein CDU and the working group for real estate , in which he was active as chairman of the main committee until the end of his life. Together with managing director Jürgen Hagedorn from Schrevenborn, he was able to prevent the land reform laws passed shortly after the end of the war from affecting Schleswig-Holstein landowners with full severity and in 1959 they were dropped.
