Cooking History is a Czech / Slovak / Austrian documentary by director Peter Kerekes about the stories and fates of military chefs in various European wars .

action

A portrait of several military chefs from all over Europe who have served in different armies and have seen the European wars of the 20th century . Her memories open up a subjective view of historical events that sometimes deviates from the usual historiography . They lead the viewer behind data and facts, declarations of war , battles and peace agreements .

Cooking History shows people's little secrets, opens up a dimension of history that cannot be found in school books or archives . The directness of the anecdotes and fates of the people in this film convey an inkling of life and death in the “apparatus of war”, of hopes, longings and strategies for survival amid destruction and hopelessness.
