Courtney Ray Leonard Pigram (born November 14, 1985 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Pigram first played as a professional in Spain and the People's Republic of China , before joining the NBA Development League in his home country. Then Pigram also played in the German basketball league for the New Yorker Phantoms and the s.Oliver Baskets on a temporary basis. In early 2014 Pigram got a contract in the top Greek division A1 Ethniki with Ilisiakos Athens.

Career

Pigram got a place to study at East Tennessee State University in the east of his home state, where he played from 2005 for the college team Buccaneers in the Atlantic Sun Conference of the NCAA . The Buccaneers , who were new to this conference, achieved the best season record of all Atlantic Sun teams in 2007 and Pigram was already named Sophomore as “Player of the Year” at his conference. In the championship tournament, however, the final game was clearly lost against defending champion Belmont Bruins . Two years later, in the semifinals of the championship tournament, they prevented the fourth success in the series of the Bruins, in whose ranks Alex Renfroe was the "Atlantic Sun Player of the Year 2009", and won the Atlantic Sun championship in the final itself. In their regional group in the last place on the seeding list, they then lost the first round duel of the national NCAA finals in 2009 against the highly favored Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh . After his four NCAA college seasons, Pigram was the third-best scorer in the history of the Buccaneers, with over 2,000 points, as well as the third-best assists and fourth-best " ball thief ".

After completing his studies, Pigram began a professional career in 2009 and played in the third Spanish league LEB Plata for the River from Andorra . With the promoted team he achieved a positive season balance and the play-offs for promotion to the second highest division, in which, however, they were eliminated in the first round. At the beginning of 2011, Pigram played in the second-highest Chinese league "National Basketball League of China" for Zhaozhou Feng Shen from Heilongjiang Province in the northeast of the country. After the end of the season Pigram first returned to his home country, where he was selected in the fifth round of the draft of the NBA Development League (D-League) by the Idaho Stampede . For the Stampede, however, he did not complete a game, but was hired by the Maine Red Claws, where he was able to draw attention to himself as an energetic scorer before the end of the NBA " lockout ".

After the season in the D-League, Pigram tried again as a professional in Europe, this time in December 2012 in the top German division basketball Bundesliga , where he received a contract to replace an injured compatriot with the s.Oliver Baskets from Würzburg . After five weeks, however, the Würzburg team changed their mind again at the end of January and prematurely terminated the contract that was extended until the end of the season. Then Pigram got a contract with the relegation-threatened league competitor New Yorker Phantoms from Braunschweig , where he should also replace an injured compatriot. After relegation with the team and a change of coach, he did not get a new contract after the end of the season and finally signed a contract with the Greek first division club Ilisiakos from Athens in early 2014 .
