Critters 2 - return (original title Critters - The Main Course ) is an American science fiction film by director and screenwriter Mick Garris from the year 1988 , a continuation of critters - you're there! . The name of the title-giving extraterrestrial comes from the colloquial, humorous pronunciation of the English word creatures ( creatures , living beings ). The film opened in German cinemas on December 29, 1988.

Two years after the plot of the first part of the film series, the residents of Grovers Bend now again or still consider the stories about the Critters to be figments when, punctually at Easter, the brood of alien critters that have been left behind hatches and begins to eat the inhabitants of the place who then barricade themselves in the church. Both Brown jun. and the bounty hunters from space reappear. The plan to blow up the Critters in a hamburger factory fails at the last second, so that the bounty hunter's spaceship has to destroy the Critters.

The lexicon of international films considers the film to be a "disgusting mixture of horror and science fiction film with a lot of cruelty."
Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times is devastating that the film "has no right to exist."
Richard Harrington of the Washington Post finds it "unsatisfactory."
The "Lexicon of Science Fiction Films" judges: ... a pure money-making infusion of the same old stupid story of the aliens terrorizing good people on earth.
Awards
The make-up team was nominated for the Saturn Award in 1990. Mick Garris was nominated for the International Fantasy Film Award of the Festival Internacional de Cinema do Porto in 1989.

- The production of the film cost about 4.5 million US dollars . It grossed about $ 3.8 million in US theaters.
- Three sequels were filmed: Critters 3 - The Cuddle Killers Are Coming (1991), Critters 4 - The Big Eating Goes On (1992) and Critters Attack! (2019).
Trivia
- The original sound of the film is rather serious, but it is humorous. The critters can only communicate there in their alien language. In the German version, however, the critters sing and rhyme in German in every scene.
