The Cruise Europa is a ferry to the Greek shipping company Minoan Lines . She belongs to the fourth generation of ships since the company was founded and was the largest ferry in the Mediterranean at the time of commissioning. The Cruise Europa is the type ship in its class. In contrast to the rest of the fleet, the home port is not Heraklion , but Palermo .

The new ship class from Minoan Lines is a further development of the Cruise Roma class of the Italian Grimaldi Lines , which has been the majority owner of Minoan Lines since the beginning of 2009. The sister ship of Cruise Europa is the Cruise Olympia .

commitment

The Cruise Europa is since 16 September 2009 in the route Ancona - Igoumenitsa - Patras used. On October 12, 2009, the ship first called Patras. During the first voyage from Patras to Ancona, the ship collided with the harbor wall in Igoumenitsa and was only able to continue after 12 hours.

When the Norman Atlantic was struck on December 28, 2014, Cruise Europa and the container ship Spirit of Piraeus were the first to arrive at the scene of the accident. Own attempts to help Cruise Europa with lifeboats were not possible in winds of over 9 Beaufort and with waves of more than 5–6 meters. However, Cruise Europa was involved in the evacuation along with other ships for over 30 hours. A total of more than 60 people, who were recovered from the burning Norman Atlantic by helicopter, were dropped off and looked after at Cruise Europa .

Furnishing

The Cruise Europa highlighted some changes in the company. She is currently the only ship in the Italy-Greece service with ten cabin classes and offers space for over 3,000 passengers, of which around 1,200 are in cabins. These include two to four-bed inside cabins as well as outside luxury cabins with one or two beds, 54 junior suites and two owner suites. The ship has the usual equipment on Greek deep sea ferries:

  • One self-service and one full-service restaurant
  • Duty Free Shop
  • Lounges
  • Casino
  • Pool with separate children's pool

In response to the increasing demands of passengers, Cruise Europa is completely new in some points. It is equipped with a wellness area with a whirlpool and a sauna. It also has a fitness center with exercise equipment.
