Cy fire
Cy Feuer , actually Seymour Arnold Feuerman , (born January 15, 1911 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York , † May 17, 2006 in New York City, New York) was an American theater owner , music director , film and theater producer .
Life
Cy Feuer worked as a trumpeter in clubs in Brooklyn from the age of fifteen and initially dropped out of high school in favor of this profession . After a few engagements, including at Radio City Music Hall , he toured the United States in 1938 with the Leon Belasco Orchestra. After a tour stop in Burbank , he separated from Belasco and got a job with Republic Pictures . There he worked on more than 100 feature films , mainly B-movies , as music director, arranger and composer. He served in the US military for three years during World War II . In 1947 he left Republic Pictures and moved back to New York, where he teamed up with Ernest H. Martin . Together they not only produced successfully on Broadway from the late 1940s to the late 1970s , but also ran the Lunt-Fontanne Theater , where Feuer occasionally worked as a theater director. He received three Tony Awards and the 2003 Tony for Lifetime Achievement . Feuer adapted some of his successful theater productions for Hollywood; first in 1952 the comedy film Charley's Aunt . His greatest success as a film producer was the musical film Cabaret . It received eight Academy Awards , fire itself received a nomination for Best Picture as a producer , but was subject to Albert S. Ruddy . In 1985, Feuer produced the drama A Chorus Line . The film musical received three Academy Award nominations, but was not particularly successful commercially.
