The Czorsztyn , even Zbiornik Czorsztyński or Zalew Czorsztyński called, is a reservoir on the rivers Dunajec and Białka in the Polish Malopolska province . Downstream is the Jezioro Sromowskie reservoir . It is located between the Spiš and Podhale regions and the mountain ranges of the Pienines , specifically Spis Pienines , and Gorce in the Kotlina Nowotarska valley basin at the foot of the Tatra Mountains .

Behind the 56 m high dam the water which is Dunajec and Białka and smaller tributaries dammed. The inflow area covers 1287 km². When the reservoir is completely blocked, it contains 234.5 million m³ of water. The water area is then 11 km² and the shore length 30 km. The dam is 60 m high and over 400 m long.
history
The decision to build the dam in Niedzica was made in 1964 and construction began in 1970. The reservoir was finally flooded in 1997. It is used both as a swimming lake and as a protective storage against flooding and as a hydropower plant.
tourism
On the shores of the lake there are two castles, the Niedzica Castle and the Czorsztyn Castle , the ski area on Mount Wdżar , the Pieniny National Park with the Dunajec Gorge , as well as several stalls and marinas where sailing boats, pedal boats and kayaks can be offered. Not far from the reservoir is the Białka Gorge and the Tatra and Gorce National Parks .
