Lars Larsen , who came from a humble background, founded the company on March 15, 1979 . The operating company's history began with the opening of a specialty shop for bedroom furnishings as Jysk Sengetøjslager (, Jütisches linen stock ') on 2 April 1979 in Aarhus . Larsen's business idea was to combine a range of bedding with furniture and other furnishings, something that had hardly existed before. Larsen's company expanded rapidly and soon opened numerous branches. On April 1, 1984, the first Danish bed warehouse was opened in Flensburg (Germany) . In 1987 the company moved into the German headquarters in Jarplund-Weding near Flensburg. In 1988 the headquarters were relocated to the neighboring Handewitt . On April 4, 2000, the first Danish bed warehouse in Austria was opened in Vöcklabruck . In April 2001 the Danish, Swedish and Finnish branches were renamed to JYSK . The Danish Bettenlager brand was retained in Germany and Austria, and all future national markets, whether from the group headquarters in Denmark or the German headquarters, will operate under the JYSK brand from now on . On March 30, 2006 the first Swiss JYSK branches were opened in Baar and Bülach , and in 2007 the company entered the French market. In 2009 the company expanded to Italy and Spain, and in 2016 the first JYSK branch opened in Portugal.

criticism

Since mid-2009, the central warehouse of the Danish bed warehouse in Germany (under the name Bettenwelt ) has been criticized by the media. At the same time as the creation of a staff position in international logistics and its staffing with a former Lidl manager, temporary employment agencies were increasingly used in the central warehouses. The temporary workers mostly take over the picking work of the permanent staff. There are also still in the central warehouses - in contrast to the other parts of the group - not by tariff paid permanent staff.

In July 2009, large parts of the industrial and commercial employees at the Homberg site went on a warning strike for the required tariff membership . According to the Hessische / Niedersächsische Allgemeine , the fronts between the management and the works council have hardened, and works council members at the Homberg / Efze site have been dismissed without notice.

According to the NDR , employees were also dissatisfied with working conditions at the Danish bed warehouse in 2014.
