Dörnbach is a district of the town of Rockenhausen in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate .

location

Dörnbach is located about four kilometers southwest of the core town of Rockenhausen in the North Palatinate Bergland . The stream of the same name , an orographically left tributary of the Alsenz , grazes the northeastern edge of the settlement. The Wetzenbach flows through the middle of the village and flows into the Dörnbach.

history

The first mention of the place took place in the 12th century. Initially the name of the place was Duringebach , which translated means something like "Bach des Düring" and possibly indicates a settlement from Thuringia . Until the end of the 18th century the place belonged to the Reipoltskirchen rule . From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Dörnbach was incorporated into the canton of Rockenhausen . From 1816 the place belonged to Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 Dörnbach was part of the Kirchheim Land Commissioner , which was then converted into a district office. On December 1, 1900, the community moved to the newly created district office Rockenhausen . In 1928 Dörnbach had 580 inhabitants who lived in 122 residential buildings. The Catholics belonged to the parish of Imsweiler , the Protestants to that of Rockenhausen. From 1938 the place was part of the district of Rockenhausen . After the Second World War , Dörnbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform, the place changed to the newly created Donnersbergkreis , three years later it also became part of the also newly formed community of Rockenhausen . On June 10, 1979, Dörnbach was finally incorporated into the neighboring town of Rockenhausen.

Cultural monuments

A stone cross , which is also known as a "murder stone", stands in the Eicheler forest on the field path between Hügelstrasse and Dörrmoschel . According to the inscription "17 ZZ", the cross dates back to 1522 and is therefore the oldest stone cross in the Palatinate. The stone cross is probably an atonement stone that was erected as a memorial for a murder.
