meaning

The districts are hierarchically located within the DGB structure according to the federal level and comprise one or more federal states. After the constitutional reform, the DGB regions are an integral part of the districts. In the DGB regions there are or are being founded on a voluntary basis, city or district associations that shape trade union policy work on site.

Using the example of the DGB-Nord: It comprises the three federal states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The DGB-Nord mainly serves the coordination of the member unions in the area and the political external representation and lobbying . It represents the social, economic, social and cultural interests of employees. The DGB is committed to a united Europe and that is why the DGB Nord works closely with over 20 trade union confederations in the trade union policy network BASTUN - Baltic Sea Trade Union Network - from all Baltic Sea states.

The eight trade unions in the DGB North District had a total of 429,989 members on December 31, 2013.
