DR2 ( Danmarks Radio 2) is a Danish public television broadcaster .

The station started in 1996 as the second public service program alongside DR1 , and was initially only receivable via cable and satellite.

This was discussed very controversially at the time, as the station could not be received by everyone in Denmark, although there were still free frequencies on aerial television. However, these were required for DVB-T tests. The not one hundred percent range of the station coupled with its intellectual reputation led to poor audience ratings , the station was also called the "secret station", which the director regretted. He called the station "my station", with the sense that this station should be more appealing for the individual, not for the whole family like the full program DR1 . This distribution problem ended on March 31, 2006 when digital broadcasting began throughout Denmark via DVB-T. The station is very similar to the British broadcaster BBC Four , whose programming focuses on experimental comedy, documentaries and in-depth news programming. DR2 has received a lot of praise for its high quality programs such as Casper & Mandrilaftalen and Drengene fra Angora . The station also broadcasts many British crime dramas such as B. Inspector Morse , Inspector Barnaby, and Hot Suspicion .

Other broadcasts from the sender may include a. The Power of Nightmares (Frygtens politik) or The Great Global Warming Swindle (Den store løgn om global opvarmning).

The station's audience ratings in the 17th week of 2008 were 3.2%.

Every Saturday the Greenlandic-language news program Nyheder fra Grønland by KNR is broadcast on DR2 with Danish subtitles . In Germany you can watch them via a web stream.

On March 4, 2013, DR2 was realigned. Since DR Update was closed as an independent TV channel, most of the content of DR Update has since been incorporated into the new DR2, which is therefore becoming more important.

Reception in Germany

The transmitter can be received via DVB-T in large parts of Schleswig-Holstein (north of the Kiel Canal with an indoor antenna; south of the Kiel Canal with a roof antenna and increased effort).
