Damen RoPax Ferry 8017 is a type of ferry from the Dutch Damen Shipyards Group .

history

The ship design comes from the marine engineering offices Fleetway in Canada and Knud E. Hansen in Denmark .

From the ship type two units were on the shipyard Damen Shipyards Galati for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in St. John's on Newfoundland , Canada, built. They are used in ferry traffic from Newfoundland.

The construction of the first ship began with the first steel cut on May 9, 2014, the second ship with the first steel cut on June 30, 2014. The keel of the ships was laid on August 20 and 21, 2014 respectively . The ships were completed and delivered on August 15, 2015 and March 25, 2016, respectively.

description

The ships are powered by diesel-electric technology . The drive motors provide each 1,600  kW and driving two Rolls-Royce - azimuth thruster with fixed pitch propellers on. The drive is built redundantly so that the ships can still be steered even if a drive motor fails. The ships are equipped with a bow thruster . Three generators powered by MTU diesel engines (type: MTU 16V4000M23S), each with an output of 1700 kW, are available to generate electricity on board . An emergency generator powered by a Volvo Penta diesel engine (type: D16) with an output of 440 kW was also installed.

The ships have a continuous vehicle deck on the main deck. Loading and unloading takes place via a bow and a stern ramp . The bow ramp is located behind a bow visor that can be opened to the sides . There are 294 meters of lane available for cars on the main deck  . Here 50 cars can be transported on five lanes. 190 lane meters are available for trucks, on which six trucks can be transported. A height-adjustable deck for the transport of cars is also attached to both sides of the vehicle deck. A further 84 lane meters are available here, providing space for 14 cars. Most of the vehicle deck is closed. In the rear area it is open at the top.

On the passenger deck above the vehicle deck, there are two lounges with 127 and 88 seats respectively. The passenger capacity of the ships is 200 people.

Above the passenger deck is the promenade deck, on which the facilities for the ship's crew , including 15 individual cabins, a mess and a lounge, are located. The bridge is located in the forward area of the superstructure .

The hull of the ships is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A Super). The ships can use it to navigate in waters with difficult ice conditions (up to 40 cm thick drift ice ).
