Dance in the Vampire Bund ( Japanese ダ ン ス イ ン ザ ヴ ァ ン パ イ ア バ ン ド , Dansu in za Vampaia Bando ) is a manga series written and drawn by Nozomu Tamaki . The manga has been published in the Media Factory magazine Gekkan Comic Flapper since January 2006 . In 2010, Shaft adapted the manga series as an anime television series.

action

The focus of the plot is Mina Țepeș ( ミ ナ ・ ツ ェ ペ ッ シ ュ , Mina Tsepesshu ), the queen of the vampires , and her protector, the werewolf Akira Kaburagi Regendorf ( 暁 ・ 鏑 木 ・ レ ー ゲ ンē ル フ) , Akira Kaburufi . For a long time the vampires were in hiding and were only seen as myths. Mina wants to end this centuries-old isolation. In return for the repayment of the national debt of Japan, it is allowed to set up an extra-territorial island, which is known as the "Bund" ([ bʌnd ], see Bund ). Finally, Mina confronts the world with the existence of the vampires and their desire that both races should live peacefully together. However, these bold plans are severely disrupted by timid people and also by extremists in the ranks of the vampires.

The vampires are divided into three different groups. There are normal vampires, a large number of whom are instinctive, violent, bloodthirsty, and sexually dissolute. In contrast to these are the "fangs" ( 牙 な し , kibanashi ), mostly vampires who became one through a bite and had their vampire teeth removed in order to stifle these urges and continue to be able to preserve their humanity. Traditionally standing at the lower end of the vampire society, Minas gives them special care, who builds them a separate underground city and lets them form families of fang-toothless adults and children and a general social community. At the top of the vampire society are the pure-blooded vampires ( 真 祖 , shinso ), vampires who were not previously humans and whose bloodline does not contain any blood from a connection with humans. Of these, only four people still exist: Mina Țepeș and the princes Rozenmann ( ロ ー ゼ ン マ ン , Rōzenman ), Li ( ) and Ivanov ( イ ワ ノ ヴ . Iwanovu ). The latter put up a coup against the royal family, in which Mina's mother died - like any other vampire, however, it is impossible to injure a Țepeș directly - and killed all other pure-blood families. Although Mina loves Akira, in order to preserve the pure blood, it is her fate to marry one of the three princes, because pure-blooded vampires can only have one offspring. But Mina is apparently not able to do this because of her childlike body. Every vampire has a true form that reflects his character, often monstrous appearances, while Mina becomes an image of her mother and mature woman and has to keep this a secret from the princes.

Anime

The Shaft studio adapted the manga as an anime television series under the direction of Akiyuki Shimbō . Shimbo was previously the director of the very successful anime television series Bakemonogatari . The character design was worked out by Naoyuki Konno based on the manga. Kōji Azuma took over the artistic direction . Akio Dobashi was the composer . At the request of the author of the manga, the anime does not reproduce the plot of the manga unchanged, but with some freedom.

The music was produced under the Flying Dog label . The title Friends ( フ レ ン ズ ) was played in the opening credits . Sung by Aiko Nakano, the song is a cover of the greatest hit of the same name by the Japanese pop rock band Rebecca from 1985. It was composed by Akio Dobashi and the lyrics were written by NOKKO , members of the band. The end credits were titled Tsumeato ( 爪痕 ), which was interpreted by hibiku . The piece was composed by Jumpei Fujita . Aiko Nakano wrote the lyrics.

The series was first broadcast on AT-X from January 7th to April 1st, 2010 . A few days later, the Japanese channels Chiba TV , Sun TV , Tokyo MX , TV Aichi , TV Kanagawa and TV Saitama also started broadcasting. In addition to the planned 12 episodes, between the 7th and 8th episode a summary episode called Tokubetsuhe - Special Edition ( 特別 編〜Special Edition〜) was inserted as a special episode.

The episode titles allude to various horror, vampire and werewolf films, such as Prom Night , The Howling , Teen Wolf , Interview with the Vampire , Shadow of the Vampire , From Dusk Till Dawn , Innocent Blood , Near Dark or The Lost Boys .

Each episode contained an illustration in the credits, which came in turn from the following artists: Meimu (draftsman of the Manga for Gasaraki , Ringu 2 and Juon 2 ), Jin Kobayashi (draftsman of the Manga School Rumble ), Shinji Ohara (draftsman of the Manga Nijū Mensō no Musume ), Koin (illustrator of Kanokon ), Semmu (illustrator of fighters ), Kai Ōba (draftsman of the Manga Tono to Issho ), Luna (illustrator of Seiken no Blacksmith ), Tetsurō Kasahara (draftsman of the Manga Rideback ), Keitarō Arima ( Draftsman of the Manga Tsukuyomi - Moon Phase ), Chūōhigashiguchi (Character Designer), Hekiru Hikawa (Draftsman of the Manga Pani Poni ) and Nozomu Tamaki.

In March 2010, Dance in the Vampire Bund was licensed by Funimation and has been streamed with English subtitles on its own website since March 5th. Some scenes were cut in the streams, and an uncut release on DVD is planned. European law was secured by Dybex , which wants to publish a German-language version in collaboration with Nipponart . From October 19, 2010, the series was broadcast in German on Animax . The German version was released by Nipponart on November 24, 2011 on DVD and on April 25, 2014 on Blu-ray, both in full.
