Daniel David Ntanda Nsereko

Daniel David Ntanda Nsereko (born November 27, 1941 ) is a Ugandan legal scholar . From 2007 to 2012 he was a judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague .

Life

Nsereko graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam in Dar es Salaam , Tanzania with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) in 1968 . In the same year he completed an internship as a lawyer at Kiwanuka & Co., Advocates in Kampala , Uganda. He received a Master of Comparative Jurisprudence (MCJ) from Howard University in 1970 and a Master of Laws (LL.M) from New York University School of Law in 1971 . He received an assistant professorship in law at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, which he held until 1975. During this time, he graduated from the Hague Academy for International Law in 1972 with a degree in international law . From 1973 to 1975 he received his doctorate in law (JSD) from the New York University School of Law and the School of Law, Washington, DC

From 1975 to 1978 Nsereko worked as a private lecturer in law at Makerere University in Kampala. He then worked as a lawyer until 1982. In 1983 he became a Social Affairs Officer at the United Nations Center for Development and Humanitarian Affairs in New York . Nsereko worked as an Expert Consultant at the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Branch of the United Nations Center for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs from 1983 to 1984.

Nsereko moved to the University of Botswana in Gaborone in 1984. There he worked as a private lecturer before becoming associate professor in 1992 and full professor in 1996. Nsereko was a committed Christian - elder and director of Christian education in his Adventist Church in Gaborone ( Botswana ). In 1993 and 1994 he was Walter S. Owen Visiting Professor of Law in the Law Faculty of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver .

In January 2007 Nsereko was elected to the International Criminal Court in The Hague together with the French Bruno Cotte and the Japanese Fumiko Saiga . The nomination was supported by the African Union . Nsereko was one of five members of the Appeals Department. His term of office ended in 2012.
