biography

St. Johannis Church in Arbergen

Heisius was the son of Pastor Ernst Heise, who died early. He attended school in Hamburg and the Athenaeum Stade . He studied 1693-1695 theology at the University of Greifswald and from 1695 to 1697 at the University of Leipzig . In 1707 he married Anna Louisa Dassovius from Greifswald, who was four years his senior , widow of Nicolaus Dassow and daughter of Michael Siricus , court preacher in Güstrow .

In 1704 he succeeded the late August Holstein as pastor at St. Johannis Church in Arbergen . In 1705 he was introduced to the church office of general superintendent Johann Dieckmann, which he held until 1747. He is said to have been "a capable person" and to have led a "strict church regime", and he was considered the original of his time in Arbergen and Bremen. After a few quiet years in office, in 1719 he succeeded in building the new nave of the hall church in Arbergen according to plans by Georg Vick in just 30 weeks. In 1724 he was also superintendent at the Bremen Cathedral for a year as the successor to Gerhard Meier .

During construction work on the church, it was found that his body - like the one in the Bremen lead cellar - had not rotted away.
