Daniel Herz (born June 4, 1618 in Munich , † May 28, 1678 in Wilten near Innsbruck) was a German-Austrian organ builder .

Life

The son of a Kistler renewed the organ in the parish church of Klausen in 1641–43 as the “organ maker of Minichen” , but was already living in Brixen , where he obtained resident rights in 1646. From 1653 he worked repeatedly for the Innsbruck court, in 1656 he moved to Innsbruck and is henceforth known as court organ maker. In 1671 he installed his workshop in Wilten.

Herz was the most important Tyrolean organ builder of the 17th century and as such enjoyed a far-reaching reputation. He also delivered organs to Upper Bavaria, Trentino and as far as Belluno and Jerusalem . Jacob Köck continued his tradition in Brixen and Johannes Hackhofer in Wilten . His grave slab has been preserved on the south side of the Wilten basilica; the date of death given there (June 5th) is incorrect. The most important playable instrument of his work is the organ in the Wilten collegiate church, built according to the extension system .

His son Anton Franz (born February 21, 1660 in Innsbruck, † April 8, 1717 in Bensheim an der Bergstrasse) also learned organ building. He settled in Bensheim in 1684 and was accepted as a citizen there on August 9, 1686. Organ structures are not known from him. In 1713 he is referred to as a "carpenter".
