Daniel William Kucera
Daniel William Kucera OSB (born May 7, 1923 in Chicago , Illinois , † May 30, 2017 in Dubuque , Iowa ) was an American religious , theologian and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dubuque .
Life
Daniel William Kucera, son of the marriage of Joseph and Lillian (Petrzelka) Kucera, joined the Congregation of Benedictines of the Abbey of St. Procopius in Lisle (Illinois) in, put on 16 June 1944, the perpetual profession from and received by his philosophical and theological training at St. Procopius College on May 26, 1949, ordained a priest . He was at the Catholic University of America for Dr. theol. PhD and taught at St. Procopius College, now Benedictine University in Chicago. Kucera was president of the college from 1959 to 1965 and 1971 to 1976. Since 1964 he was abbot of St. Procopius Abbey .
Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 6, 1977 titular bishop of Natchesium and auxiliary bishop in Joliet, Illinois . The Bishop of Joliet in Illinois Romeo Roy Blanchette dedicated it on July 21 of the same year Bishop ; Co- consecrators were Andrew Gregory Grutka , Bishop of Gary , and Raymond James Vonesh , Auxiliary Bishop in Joliet, Illinois.
On March 5, 1980, he was appointed Bishop of Salina by Pope John Paul II and was introduced into office on May 7 of the same year. He was named Archbishop of Dubuque on December 20, 1983, and took office on February 23 of the next year. On January 13, 1998, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
Kucera served on various commissions of the Bishops' Conference of the United States and was responsible for finance from 1987 to 1990 and 1992 to 1993.
Daniel W. Kucera was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . He was Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and from 1992 to 1996 Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy USA Northern of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.
